Shilbottle is located equidistant between the picture perfect coastal village of Alnmouth to the east and the historic market town of Alnwick to the north west, both being a mere 4 miles from Middle Cottage. Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland and film location for Harry Potter’s ’Hogwarts’, is a popular visitor attraction, or visit the Alnwick Gardens - a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including a grand cascade waterfall and poison garden where guests can dine in the restaurant of the largest tree house in Europe. There is a wide array of facilities available within this lovely market town including independent shops, tea rooms, a cinema/playhouse and one of the largest second-hand book shops in the UK.
The pretty seaside village of Alnmouth boasts a vast golden sandy beach and there is a variety of good restaurants, pubs, tea rooms and gift shops. Visit Seahouses a further 2 miles north and take a boat trip to the Farne Islands to see the puffins at play (in season). Bamburgh Castle is only an extra 3 miles up this stunning coastline.
